Abstract
Introduction: Flat foot is a common foot disorders in children that it cannot only cause pain, even it lead to early fatigue and many negative effects on the other parts of lower extremities (ankle, knee, hip and lower back). Although foot orthoses is a common treatment for flat foot disorders in children, the amount of the influence on foot structures is not known yet completely. So the purpose of this research was to investigate the log-term effects of custom-made foot orthoses on foot structures in children with flexible flat foot.
Methodology: A total of 30 children between 6 to 12 years old (age: 9±2.13, height: 123±6.71, weight: 38.76±6.80) with flexible flat feet participated in our study. Their feet posture index-6 (7.833±2.027), heel valgus (8.567±2.569) and arch index (0.288±0.031) were measured before and after 6 month using the custom-made foot orthoses were manufactured by CAD-CAM technique to be identical by foot and to control foot over pronated. For Statistical analysis we used descriptivd statistic for calculate average and standard devuation, Kolmogrov-Smironov for examine the normalize of data and ANOVA Repeated Major to compare the effects of foor orthodes.
Result: The results of this study showed a significant improvements in foot posture index-6(7.600±1.484), heel valgus (7/600±1.632) and arch index (0.268±0.023) (p < 0.05) after 6 month using the foot orthoses.
Discussion: Long-term use of custom-made foot orthoses significantly improved foot structures in children with flexible flat foot. Since these parameters were showed that improvement in foot alignment, it can be concluded foot orthoses have positive effects of foot structures in children.
