The relationship between demographic features and how to spend children's leisure time of a primary school in Tehran with an emphasis on physical activity

Abstract
Introduction: Primary school plays an important role in the development of social behaviors and motor abilities. Children enter to a world that many of their needs must be met. Primary school is a special stage, during this period, the child is exempt from formal and serious education and it has the more freedom to act and it will not be imposed upon any hard duty on him. Given the fact that the children who contribute in planned physical activities achieve many opportunities for participate and interact with others and for respond to their needs and others which seems to not only create a positive image of itself, but also increase social awareness and trust in self for children. Although parents or coaches do not have a specific program to play, but they can raise the quality of education for children by presenting plans. The aim of this research was investigating the relationship between demographic features and how to spend children's leisure time of a primary school in Tehran with an emphasis on physical activity.
Methodology: The research method was descriptive – correlation that was done field method. The statistical population of the study consisted of parents of all primary school children in Tehran and sample size using Cochran's formula, were selected 263 parents of elementary school children. The measurement tool was a questionnaire created by the researcher that validated by sport management professors familiar with the topic and it’s reliability coefficient was 0.78. For data analysis and using SPSS software, T-test, Chi square test and Friedman test were used.
Results: It was found that the sex of children did not play any role in how spending leisure time (with an emphasis on physical activity) and on the contrary, family economic status, parent’s education and jobs were effective and Parent's greatest motivation from their participation of children in physical activity plans was attention to the psychological dimensions of mobility, such as evacuating children's energy, improving trust in self and reducing anxiety and weight loss and fitness have not played much role in this regard.
Discussion: Therefore, it can be concluded that financial weakness, lack of time, low leisure facilities are the main barriers to doing leisure activity in children which should be considered the role of occupation, education, family economic status and children's physical health status in this regard.
