Abstract
Introduction: Planned and unplanned gait initiations have been frequently done in several competitive or team sport game. Sports and rehabilitation activities usually are done in places with predetermined floor covering. Studies have shown that gait initiation on different floors leads to change kinetic and kinematic features of movement. The target of current study is comparing the effect of artificial turf and PVC floor covering on planned and unplanned gait initiation, from the first heel contact to the first toe off in 20 to 30 year old active.
Methodology: Amounts of ground reaction forces and COPs were measured by two force plates belonging to KISTLER company which were located along with each other and normalized by using of samples’ weight. Fourteen 20 to 30 year old active women took part in this study. After putting each floor covering on force plates and calibrating the system, the sample stood in a particular place and start to walk first with their own will and, after one minute rest, to started walking with the start command. The fx, fy,fz, COPx, COPy and COPz compared by using of depended T-test.
Results: No significant differences have been found between ground reaction forces and also lateral and vertical changes of COP of planned gait initiation on artificial turf and PVC floor covering. But significant differences in Fx were observed in the first heel contact, main stance and toe off phases of step, and significant differences in Fy were observed in the first toe off phase of step between unplanned gait initiation on artificial turf and PVC floor covering. Significant differences in COP changes were observed, in anterior posterior direction in the first heel contact, main stance and toe off phases of step, between planned gait initiation on artificial turf and PVC floor covering and also between unplanned gait initiation on these two kinds of floor covering.
Discussion: Results show these two kinds of floor covering have just effected on COP changes of planned gait that may ne be because of active sample group who could compensate the effect of different floor covering by using of their physical superiority the same as muscle strength and motor control. On the other hand the obvious changes of ground reaction forces of unplanned gait initiation between artificial turf and PVC floor covering can be because of semi unconscious movement pattern.
