Abstract
Introduction: The knee joint is one of the areas of common sports injuries and musculoskeletal disorders in athletes. Epidemiology Studies on the knee alignment have been shown that about 73 percent of soccer player have genu varum. The purpose of this study was the comparison of the effects of knee kineso taping on some physical fitness factors and technical performance in young soccer players with and without genu varum.
Methodology: In this study 37 young soccer player with and without genu varum purposefully participated. 20 players (age 18.32, height 177.42 cm, body mass 66.16 kg) with genu varum and 17 players (age of 17.64, height of 176.53 cm, body mass 68.47 kg) with normal alignment were tested before and after kinesio taping. Speed, agility and power indicators were evaluated as physical fitness factors related to performance and dribbling as technical performance.
Results: According to the results, the use of kinesio taping caused significant difference in speed, agility and power compared to not using kinesio taping in the both groups (p=0.001). The use of kinesio taping on performance in post-test in the both groups was not significant (p>0.05). There was no significant co-relationship difference between two groups before and after kinsio taping in indicators factors tested.
Discussion: These results indicated genu varum is not the effective factor on speed, agility and power and dribbling. It can be said that genu vaum is not necessarily a negative factor in physical fitness and performance. Also the results show knee Kinesio Taping can increase physical fitness factors in young soccer players.
