Abstract
Introduction: Mawashi-Geri technique (roundhouse kick) is one of the most common kicks in karate and in kumite competitions (Combat), that is used more than any other leg kicks. According to the importance of Jodan Mawashi-Geri technique, the purpose of this study is to calculate the torque, peak velocity and angular velocity of the knee joint in lower body joints with a new method and Comparison of the two implementation methods of Jodan Mawashi-Geri technique.
Methodology: This study use descriptive-comparative method that its statistical population is Iran’s national karate team members in adult’s age class. For this purpose, 16 karate player participated voluntarily in this study. To measure the kinematic parameters of the lower body in the Jodan Mawashi-Geri technique, 5 markers were set to the anatomical points and the image of Jodan Mawashi-Geri technique was taken by two Hero 3 (240 frames per second) digital cameras in a classical and Competition manner. Finally, in order to calculate kinetic of Jodan Mawashi-Geri technique, the kinematic parameters entered the dynamic model, which was used by the mechanical simulation software, which is one of the Mat lab software tools. After ensuring about the normal distribution of data by using Shapiro-Wilk test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, then the Paired T- Test was used to analyze the differences between the two implementation methods (Classic and Competition) of Jodan Mawashi-Geri technique at the significant level (p≤0.05) by spss 22 software.
Results: The results show thatin the two implementation methods(Classic and Competition) of JodanMawashi-Geri technique, there is a significant difference among thejoints’ Torque (Pelvis (p=0.03), knee (p=0.02), Metatarsus (p<0.001),joints' peak velocity(Pelvis (p<0.001), knee (p=0.02), Metatarsus (p=0.04)) and angular velocity of the knee joint(p<0.001).
Discussion: According to the research results, it seems Performing Jodan Mawashi-Geri technique start by lifting the knee in the form of Competition because of the short distance and because the first phase of the technique is identical to Maei-Ger and ura Mawashi-Geri techniques Which makes it difficult for the opponent to recognize the impact, and increases the likelihood of hit and score points, So the coaches are recommended touses this template for speeding up the implementation of technique and easy scoring.
