Surveying Economic Effects of University Students Sport Events with Emphasis on Sports for all and Championship Sports

Abstract
Introduction: University sports event is considered as one of the key variables for attraction and participation of students as athletes and sports tourists that are held annually in different forms of sport for all festivals, gatherings, Olympiads and championship sports competitions. It has economic, social and cultural effects, such as the development of funds and equipment, attracting the participation of institutions and engagement of sponsors, advertising and market boom and student sport tourism. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to survey the economic effects of university students sport events with emphasis on economic revenues, earnings and employment at the 13th Sport Cultural Olympiad of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and the 2nd National Sports for all Olympiad hosted by University of Tehran.
Methodology: The present study is an applied research using mixed method design. The population consists of executive managers of Host University, supervisors, technical staff of participating universities and athletes. The data collection tool were include of library documents, 2011 Input-Output Table of Iran statistical center, and the questionnaire developed according to the classification code of economic activities (ISIC, Rev 3.1). To analyze data, input-output model and IOW and Excel software were used. Research findings showed that holding student sport events could have a significant effect on income and employment variables.
Results: As a result of these two students sport events on sports for all and championship sports, a total of about 300 Jobs were created in the country in which among the sub sectors of the economy, were the "Entertainment, Cultural and Sports Services" was ranked first.
Discussion: Consequently, holding student sport events at both levels of sports for all and championship sports has led to the development of public and private sector investment, creation and standardization of sports infrastructure, creation of new facilities for dormitories and restaurants, equipment of gyms and non-sports facilities, income generation, job creation, sponsorship, subvention of holding events, improvement of welfare in the host area, and creation of joy and happiness in university and the host city. Moreover, free advertising will provide some conditions for the host including: setting up recreational & sport tours, developing indigenous and local markets, knowing common customs and traditions in the region and exchanging it with different cultures, introducing traditions to everyone, growth and development of economy for tourism purposes and university branding.
