Study of perception, satisfaction and attitude of young women to weight and body image

Abstract
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate perception, satisfaction and attitude of young women to weight and body image. The target population consisted of young women of Razi University.
Methodology: Researcher-made questionnaire which was developed to measure perception, satisfaction and attitude of young women to weight and body image, distributed between 50 women's age 20-30 years randomly. After translation, questionnaires were evaluated by professor’s faculty of physical education and sport sciences. The reliability analysis yielded Cronbach Alpha values of 0.82. The first part of questionnaire include demographic questions, the second part include 4 questions about women self-steem. The final (third) part includes 20 questions about weight control methods and how to receive ideal weight. The collected data was analyzed by descriptive method include Mean±SE and percent (P<0.05).
Results: The mean±SE of height, weight and age of subjects was 161±8.17 cm, 68.68±1.12 kg and 40.57±9.18 yr, respectively. Results show that 88.5% of obese women and 55% of lean women didn’t satisfy from their weight. Also 61.4% of obese subjects think that they are lean, and 79.8 % of subject wants to be thinner. The usual weight loss methods was (decrease food intake 43.4%, aerobic exercise 24.3, delete meal 9.4%, fasting 3.5% and drug use 1.2%) and weight gain method were (increase food intake 40.6% , body building 20.2%, and drug use 7.8%).
Discussion: The results show that the perception of young women from body image aren’t properly. Most of them tend to weight loss, and didn’t satisfy from their current weight. Therefore, more attention to perception satisfaction and attitude of young women to weight and body image is necessary
