Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between social capital and the nutritional habitus of male students athletes in 2014 university games of Iran.
Methodology: In this study, 310 student athletes were selected by purposeful selection and were evaluated by descriptive-survey method. Data were collected by using questionnaire that completed by interview. In section one, the personal The information of subjects and in the three next sections, nutritional knowledge, attitude and practice were collected. The questionnaire consisted of 31 questions for nutritional knowledge, and 21 questions for nutritional attitude and to 8 questions for practice, and 21 questions about social capital (including 3 sections) The minimum and maximum score for each question is 1 and 5 respectively. Data analysis was carried out by using one sample t test, one way ANOVA test and Pearson’s correlation coefficient.
Results: The results showed that nutritional habitus of Athletes were lower than normal ( p < 0.05 ). there were no significant differences for nutritional habitus among on the subjects in different sports and academic levels ( p > 0.05 ). However, There was a significant and positive correlations among social capital and the nutritional habitus of athletes.
Discussion: This study showed that the nutritional habitus of male students' athletes participated in the university games is low and that they need more theoretical and applied nutrition educations irrespective of their sport fields and academic levels. and By increasing the social capital of athletes, the level of their Nutritional habitus increases.
