Introduction: Traditionally, the Rhus Coriaria. L fruit is used as seasoning in food table of Iranians and also it recommended for diabetics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of 10 weeks of aerobic exercise with Rhuse Coriaria. L supplementation on some atherogenic index in type II diabetic women.
Methodology: This quasi-experimental study was performed in 2016 on 40 type II diabetic women (40 to 60 yr (of Ajabshir city that volunteered and randomly assigned into 1- Rhus Coriaria. L supplement (n=10), 2- exercise (n=10), 3- Rhus Coriaria. L supplement+exercise (n=10) and 4- control groups (n=10). Exercise protocol was aerobics and walking activity for 10 weeks (3 d/wk, 40 to 60 min/d with 45-60 % HRRmax intensity). Subjects in groups 1and 3 received 3 grams of Rc.L powder daily. Fasting blood samples were collected in pre and post-test following 48 hours of inactivity and not consumption of Rc.L and 12 hours of fasting. Data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and LSD Statistical tests at significance level of p<0.05.
Results: The most atherogenic indices such as AIP, LPA, non-HDL, TC / HDL, LDL / HDL and etc were significantly reduced in 1, 2, 3 groups after 10- weeks intervention (P<0.05).
Discussion: Given that Rc.L supplementation along aerobics and walking activity, has favorable effects on lipid profiles and atherogenic indices in patients with type II diabetes, probably it can be used as a complementary therapy along with medications to control diabetes, maintaining cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of atherosclerosis.
