Abstract
Introduction: Fracture of femur is considered as one of the most significant causes of disability and death, especially among the elderly. Therefore, there is a global effort towards non-invasive assessment of the femoral fractures. The purpose of the present research was to compare the femoral neck fracture pattern in both normal and abnormal angles in active and non - active postmenopausal women.
Methodology: In this way, 20 postmenopausal women ( 55 + 5.2 years ), were selected as active and non-active groups among all of the patients that registered in the CT scan department of the city hospital during the past three years. In this way, the geometric data and density of the bone and the type of bone according to the their angles as Coxa-Vara and Coxa-Valga were calculated using by CT-Scan device. The experimental and computational analysis of fracture patterns were carried out using the CT scan images and finite element analysis. For statistical analysis after using Kolmonogroph-Smirnof Normalization test, T student test were used to compare the groups and the level of significant set as p≤.05.
Results: The results showed that there is no significant difference between the femoral neck fracture pattern in both normal and abnormal angles between two groups. Moreover, the geometry and density of the femoral neck indices couldn't have any significant effect during fracture pattern in the femur.
Discussion: Therefore, it seems that the geometric data could not consider as the predictor indices during fracture pattern of the femoral neck angle in postmenopausal women.
