The identification and prioritization of coping strategies for the challenges of knowledge-based sports companies

Introduction: Nowadays, the development of knowledge-based industries and the increasing growth of private companies active exist in various fields of industry including the sports equipment industry. Knowledge-based companies are the private or cooperative institutions which are established for promoting the knowledge and wealth, economic development based on the realization of scientific and economic goals in line with the expansion of innovation and, ultimately, the commercialization of research and development results (including the design and production of products and services) in the field of superior technology and high value added (especially in the production of related software). Since these companies are newfound, they face many technical and operational challenges. Therefore, this study was an attempt to identify and prioritize the coping strategies for the challenges of knowledge-based sports companies.
Methodology: Following the library studies and review of literature, as well as interviewing the managers of knowledge-based sports companies and the activists in the field of sports entrepreneurship (targeted sampling: 20 people), the preliminary list of strategies was extracted and the coping strategies for the challenges were identified and prioritized by using the confirmatory and exploratory factor analyses. Then, the challenges were prioritized by using AHP.
Results: The results of this study showed that the most important coping strategies for the challenges of knowledge-based sports companies in order of priority were: attraction, maintenance, training and development of human resources, the use of comparative studies and technological and innovative systems, the development of knowledge management systems, and the use of economic support from supporting institutions.
Discussion: The increasing growth of population and the emergence of new demands on the one hand, and the implementation of a resilient economy on the other hand highlight the growing importance of knowledge-based companies. Among the active companies, those in the field of sports equipment and facilities have a special strategic position due to the wide variety of needs throughout the country and their importance in public health and increased productivity. The strategies presented in this study help the managers to solve the challenges of the knowledge-based sports companies.
