Comparison of Physical Literacy of both Male and Female Elementary Students in Second To Sixth Grade

Abstract
Introduction: Physical literacy is an appropriate criterion for active life style assessment, physical activity and its effect on the people's physical and mental health, people with more physical literacy get more benefit of health, which is gained by daily physical activity. The purpose of the research was comparison of physical literacy of both male and female elementary students in second to sixth grade.
Methodology: This research is cross-sectional research and the research method is essentially descriptive and in terms of how data is collected, it is surveying, and field. The statistical population was comprised of all second to sixth grade elementary school students in Tehran. In this research the cluster random sampling method is used and 260 students of 7 schools (130 girl and 130 boy) were selected randomly. Existence research was a physical literacy test consists of four domains Physical competence, Daily physical activity, Motivation and self-confidence, and Knowledge and understanding. Descriptive statistics and independent inferential statistics and variance analysis were used for data analysis.
Results: Results showed that student’s physical literacy is in developing level. Of course in physical literacy’s score was significantly better in boy students and effect size was about 18% of girl. In physical competence with effect size 16% and in daily activities with age increasing in a way that physical literacy’s total score in second to sixth grade elementary school had significant difference and effect size was 22%. Actually pupils of the fifth and sixth grade students were better than other grade in physical literacy total score.
Discussion: Ultimately, the results of this research first should a low level of physical literacy among male and female students and also male and high age groups students had a better level of physical literacy. Therefore, physical education course planners and sports coaches should consider all physical literacy’s component including psychological components, fundamental. Skills and also students’ parents should pay more attention to physical literacy’s level and having an active lifestyle, because have appropriate physical literacy indicates physical and mental health Therefore, application of the results of this research are practical as therapy, educational mental development of motor and physical activity of children contexts and also findings can be used to improve children- related planning in different governmental and non-government mental centers.
