Abstract
Introduction: Today, the use and management of volunteer human resources is one of the effective management indicators and an essential step towards achieving the goals of sports organizations (Doherty. 2005). Chelladurai (2006) stated that the great success of the Olympics is not just because of its superb leadership, but because of the time and energy and effort of thousands of volunteers. By examining the non-economic characteristics of volunteers, he explains that since volunteers do not have any financial affiliation with organizations, they are able to conduct an accurate and objective evaluation of sports organizations. This role of volunteers helps sports organizations go along the right path and continue to live. On the other hand, volunteering strengthens social capital in society, and therefore one can state that volunteering is one of the most important factors affecting the creation of social capital. Given the importance of volunteering in sports and especially in university sport, the aim of this study was to design a model for volunteering barriers in sport associations of universities in Iran.
Methodology: This study was a descriptive - correlational research that performed as a survey research and the final model was tested by using the structural equation modeling. The target population included all non-member students of sports associations in state universities in Iran. The sample was 1724 people. Volunteering barriers questionnaire was used for data collection, which was developed by reviewing studies in this field. The reliability of the questionnaire obtained 0/81. The point of views and opinions of 10 professors of sport management was used to confirm the validity. Also exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was performed for the questionnaire to indicate the validity of this tool.
Results: Exploratory factor analysis questions, has identified four factors include operating management, individual, leisure and social as the main obstacles to volunteering in sport associations were. The results of confirmatory factor analysis model was a perfect fit (RMSEA<0.08 AGFI<0.09 ،GFI<0.09).
Discussion: Planning for eliminating the barriers identified in this study can be a very effective step in the development of volunteer movement in the universities of Iran.
